Stalled: More Auto Workers Become Victims of "Big Box" Party Policies
GM Plant Closing Points Out Failed Trade Deals And Need To Shift Gears To 3rd Party

Pensacola, FL. (June 4, 2008) The latest round of auto plant closures and layoffs should be a clear sign to voters how trade deals and heavy-handed government regulations have dealt yet another crushing blow to the U.S. auto industry.

This week's announcement of General Motors' Baltimore van assembly plant closure (Baltimore Sun) where some 1,100 factory workers will lose their jobs represents "a clear mandate for the American people to shift course  this November when choosing their next president. The so-called ‘free-trade' deals have suffocated what was once a robust industry," noted Constitution Party presidential candidate Chuck Baldwin.

"It's past time to ignore the ramifications of ‘Tweedle-dee and Tweedle-dum political party policies that cripple our industries while paving the way for foreign concerns to edge us out of the marketplace," Baldwin added.

The Constitution Party, the largest and fastest-growing third party, based on voter registrations, (Ballot-Access News) joins with Americans nationwide in expressing concern for the Baltimore plant workers who have seen their livelihoods erased by unworkable global trade agreements and unwieldy so-called ‘environmental' mileage standards.

"How can we expect to compete in the world marketplace when big-government regulations and outlandish ‘trade agreements' rob us of our competitive edge?", Baldwin asked.

The so-called ‘front-runners' in this year's presidential contest have all shown support for these types of detrimental regulations; including John McCain who has always voted for new trade agreements like NAFTA, despite evidence of how harmful those agreements have been.

"To make matters worse McCain has added insult to injury by voting against measures intended to help stop the loss of jobs due to these trade deals," Baldwin noted, adding: " If voters are looking for a free-market candidate, McCain's not their guy and Obama and Hillary couldn't possibly be worse on this issue."

The Baldwin campaign also points out that so-called "conservative" Arizona Senator John McCain admitted (during the Michigan primary) that auto jobs weren't coming back to the state. Unfortunately, McCain was right, but he didn't mention that he was the only GOP candidate to say the country needs to fight ‘global warming' by accepting higher fuel efficiency standards - which will undoubtedly spell doom for the Motor City's chief industry.

In Senator McCain's speech on Tuesday night, June 3, he reiterated his support for the very treaties and international agreements that have been the primary cause for United State Citizens losing their jobs to other countries.

"This November, voters must say "enough is enough" and refuse to choose between the ‘lesser of two evils' - which, no matter how you slice it, is still evil," Baldwin noted.

Chuck Baldwin is the Constitution Party presidential candidate, nominated by a wide margin over Ambassador Alan Keyes, at the party's nominating convention in Kansas City, Mo. in April.
