Attorney General candidate to discuss security issues related to the Ohio Department of Homeland Security at Friday press conference.

COLUMBUS, OHIO - Columbus State Community College will be the site of a joint press conference by Independent attorney general candidate Robert Owens and the Ohio Coalition of Concerned Citizens (OCCC). The press conference will take place at 11:00 AM inside Madison Hall on the Columbus State campus.

The Columbus-based Ohio Coalition of Concerned Citizens is a non-partisan community activism organization which advocates practical cooperation between community and government leaders to solve problems such as poverty and urban crime.

The press conference will address proposals by the Ohio Department of Homeland Security to regulate private proprietary security operations.

"It is unfortunate that many in the government are using September 11th and terrorism as a pretext for every type of regulatory bureaucracy and infringement on personal liberty imaginable," Owens said. "Neither the federal government, nor state government should be involved in regulating how individuals handle the protection and security of their private property. This proposal could open the door to untold infringements on our personal property rights, and our rights to self defense."

Madison Hall is located at main entrance to the Columbus State campus, near the corner of Spring St. and Washington Ave. A map of the CSCC campus can be found online at: http://cscc.edu/Tour/PDF/map.pdf.

Owens will be available for media interviews following the 11:00 AM press conference. For additional details, contact the Owens 2008 Communications office at 614-839-8544.
